Dove Cresswell is one of the more interesting animal trainers around. Why? Because she trains dogs and other animals for films and television. Some of the films she’s worked on include Space Buddies, The X Files: I Want to Believe, Cats and Dogs 2, Saved! and Sam’s Lake. She’s also worked on the TV programs Romeo, Behind the Camera: Charlie’s Angels, and Cougar Crossings.
She’s trained a variety of animals including dogs, large reptiles, cougars, rodents, birds, cockroaches and deer. She’s trained all sizes of dogs and can train any dog breed up to the Master’s in Agility. That’s very outstanding for a twenty-five year old.
Her interest with dog training started with her labrador puppy that she took to dog obedience classes and then spent hours coaching him in her back yard to do tricks and to make his way through obstacle courses.
She volunteered at the {Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals|SPCA}. At 16 she started volunteering at an animal hospital and by 17 she was a paid member of staff there.
At university she got a BA in Science-Biology. She began working in films with a docu-drama called Cougar Crossings where she proved her ability with juvenile cougars.
Currently, she volunteers with That’ll Do Border Collie Rescue. She has three dogs of her own – a Border Collie, an Australian Shepherd, and a mini Poodle x.
If you’re concerned that animals {are mistreated|don’t enjoy their time} on film sets, Dove lets us know that they do enjoy making films and that there’s lots of play and fun in between takes! In USA and Canada, all animal trainers working in films and TV are watched by the American Humane Association.
Do you want to see your dog in films? If so, you need to make sure it’s highly trained in obedience. Dove looks for dogs competing in Agility or Obedience.
Dove has worked with several best dog trainers and taken the best methods from all of them. Using all this knowledge and experience she produced her own training course for dogs. It is based upon the exact methods she uses to coach animals for their film roles. You can be sure she gets results because film directors aren’t very tolerant of animal trainers that don’t produce the results.
